Tenants say: BJB has got to go! Genocide against the Poor.

WHAT: Picket for affordable housing and press conference announcing boycott of BJB Properties

WHO: Tenants from 1246 W. Pratt, Loyola University students, and supporters from other housing organizations

WHEN & WHERE: 10:30 a.m. Thursday March 28 in front of 1246 W. Pratt, near Pratt and Sheridan in Rogers Park

WHY: Jamie Purcell, the same developer who is trying to force residents out of the Chateau Hotel building in Uptown, is now pulling his dirty tricks in Rogers Park. Since buying the Astor House building last fall, he has filed more than 40 eviction cases against residents in the building. Tenants and neighbors will let the community know that more properties owned by BJB means more “Bedbugs, Board-Ups and Bad News” for the neighborhood.
Press Contacts:
Arbie Bowman, 773-302-5171

Melvin Jennings, 312-256-6772

Poor, disabled and fixed-income residents across Rogers Park and Lakeview are being purged from their homes in a purposeful effort of gentrification. Many of these residents cannot afford to move or will lose access to medical treatment, but they will not go quietly. Join the residents tomorrow at 1246 in a show of solidarity.
