Since New Town, according to a survey by Slate.com and @gundeaths tallied gun deaths by age and gender since December 14. Their grim total: 2141 Americans, more than 107 New Towns have occured. http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/crime/2012/12/gun_death_tally_every_american_gun_death_since_newtown_sandy_hook_shooting.html
The vast majority were killed by handguns, most often by someone they knew or a family member. Of the 2141 gun deaths since Newtown there were fewer than one percent representing someone defending themselves. Those designated that w ay were largely domestic disputes or disputes between neighbors. But the NRA and gun pornographers assert that what the nation needs is more guns and less rules. Others would argue that in fact, the nation needs to grow up and learn to deal with issues of crime, domestic disputes, violence against women, and the ready availability of guns. Incidentally, murders with other weapons such as knives and bats, despite the fiction of the NRA and its surrogates is comparatively anectdotal. Guns don’t kill people, but people with guns do.
