Forward on Climate Solidarity Rally, Sunday, February 17, 2013 11:00am, Chicago’s Grant Park

On Sunday February 17th, thousands of activists will surround the White House in Washington, DC and demand that President Obama reject the Keystone XL Pipeline. The pipeline would guarantee the extraction of dirty tar sands oil, which, as climate scientist Jim Hansen puts it, would be “game over” for the planet.

In Chicago, we will remind President Obama, a former Illinois senator and south side community organizer, of the power of communities committed to justice. Chicagoans will gather in Grant Park to celebrate and display the growth of sustainable communities in our city and reject the authority of governments to destroy the future of our home.

Join students, educators, community organizers, urban agriculturalists, activists, and more in Grant Park at 11am February 17th to show solidarity with protestors in DC. This an an opportunity for us not only to say NO to the Keystone XL Pipeline, but to say YES to moving forward– here we can all learn more and get involved with the incredible progress in Chicago toward a sustainable future.

****if you want to get involved with organizing this event****

CONTACT chiforward@googlegroups.com. We hope to have workshops, skill shares, speakers, bike rides, etc throughout the rally. Is there a way you can display your sustainable practices in Chicago? Let us know- we need you to help us show Obama how it’s done.

Build sustainable communities now!

More information to come- Pass this forward.

I am an organizer with the Chicago Youth Climate Coalition , and I shared about the upcoming solidarity rally on Feb. 17th.

We have since developed the details of the rally, and acquired over 400 Facebook RSVPs! I would love to have your groups in attendance, as we are hoping to have a strong turnout of local activists with ways to get protesters involved after the 17th. In addition to being involved with the largest climate action in history (!), I think it would be a great way to let more people know about your campaigns.

The rally will feature a large crowd art piece in Grant Park (at Congress and Michigan), designed to demonstrate our message to Obama: STOP Keystone XL. We’ll then march to the office of the Department of State (77 W Jackson), where we will surround the building in a ‘human pipeline’ to mirror the action in DC.

Please checkout the Facebook Event, share it with your networks, and let me know if there are ways you think you could help out! I’d love to talk about how we may be able to partner in the future as well.

See attached for small and large flyers for the event.

Forward!
